Note: The Okta FastPass feature is not available to Michigan Medicine.
Please Note:
Using the Okta FastPass feature is optional.
The Okta FastPass feature requires using Windows Hello for Windows devices or Touch ID for macOS.
The Okta Verify desktop application is not available for Linux. This is planned on the Okta Roadmap, timeframe is TBD.
How Okta FastPass Works
When signing into your UMICH account, Okta FastPass prompts you to complete a passwordless option in place of entering your uniqname and UMICH password and completing multi-factor authentication.
Depending on the capabilities of your desktop or laptop computer, Okta FastPass allows you to use fingerprint recognition (TouchID for macOS) or facial recognition (Windows Hello).
Why use Okta FastPass?
Okta FastPass offers a faster and more secure authentication experience when accessing your UMICH account. By eliminating passwords and using biometrics for authentication, threat actors will not be able to access your account—they can’t imitate your fingerprint or facial recognition.
FastPass also provides a way to access your UMICH account on your laptop or desktop without using your mobile device. Forget your phone at home? You can still authenticate into your account.

Limitation: If you lose your phone or forget it at home, you're locked out until the service center helps you.
Key Advantage: Your computer or tablet becomes a backup device—if you don’t have your phone, you can still sign in.

Windows: Yes, FastPass can be used with Windows Hello using a PIN.
macOS: No, TouchID is required to use FastPass with macOS.
